How this helps (research)

The Zones of Regulationframework (Leah Kuypers, 2011/2022 revision) is used in 50,000+ schools as a Tier 1 SEL intervention. Research on emotion labeling (Lieberman et al., 2007 at UCLA) shows that naming an emotion activates the prefrontal cortex and reduces amygdala activity — the neural basis for “name it to tame it.”

Brackett’s RULER approach (Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, 2019) and Feldman Barrett’s work on emotional granularity (2018) both show that building a richer emotional vocabulary is one of the strongest predictors of self-regulation and academic outcomes in K-12. A daily 30-second check-in moves the needle.
